St Luke's Hospice Plymouth provides end of life care in Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall. It is the generosity of the caring community and people like you who enable over 300 people and their families at any given time access to this specialist support through the toughest of times.

Story

ANN WESTWOOD, formerly ELLIOTT, nee SHAW lost her battle with cancer on Saturday 31 July 2010 aged 48 at St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth.  She leaves a husband, four children, 2 step-children, 3 grandchildren, 3 brothers, a sister and her parents.  She is already greatly missed.

Her funeral was at TAVISTOCK PARISH CHURCH on TUESDAY 10 AUGUST at 2pm.  It was very well attended with over 130 people in the congregation.  We are asking that people make donations here in memory of Ann for St Luke’s Hospice.

Throughout her life Ann always put the other person first whether it was working with Labrador Rescue or on the Parent Teacher’s Association she wanted the best for others.  She worked as a community care assistant allowing others to remain independent in their own home rather than being admitted to a care home.

For the last 6 or 7 years she also volunteered a large amount of time with the patient support charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK – see www.crohnsandcolitis.org.uk – having spent a number of years as chairman of the East Cornwall and West Devon Area Group and as one of 2 delegates representing the UK in the European Federation of Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis Associations – see www.efcca.org.  She did this not because she suffered from these conditions but because her husband did and she wanted to learn and help both him and others.

St Luke’s Hospice cared for Ann at the end of her life and I cannot praise them loudly enough.  Their efforts to keep her clean, comfortable and secure were quite remarkable and they fully deserve all you can give……. Please be generous, Ann would approve!
