Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My eldest daughter developed Myalgic Encephalomyelitis following glandular fever at the age of 15.  M.E. (often known as Chronic Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome)  is characterised by chronic fatigue, flu-like aches in muscles and joints and an inability to concentrate, because the mind is in a fog of tiredness.  There is a heaviness to all the limbs, and she used to struggle to lift her arm to brush her teeth. She was a highly motivated, bright and sporty youngster, but at her worst, she could only get out of bed and bump downstairs on her bottom to sit in a chair for around 4 hours a day. She would then have to go back to bed.  No-one could understand how she felt as she did not look ill. So many of both her, and her Dad's and my friends thought she should just pull herself together and get a good night's sleep and she would be fine.  With two younger sisters, a baby and an exuberant border collie in the house, it was challenging for us all to stay quiet and serene - all her senses were heightened to a point where too much sensory stimulus was excruciating. This devastating, misunderstood, and mysterious illness is common among highly motivated and bright young people. Now, over 10 years later, my daughter still often has to compensate for a busy day with a day of rest, but in the eyes of the world, she is better from the illness. M.E. is not life threatening, but it can change lives and change family life for years.  Please help us to get to the root causes of this illness with donations to M.E. Research.  It can happen to anyone of any age.
