Story
I'm raising money and awareness for two charities - The Helen Bamber Foundation and the Glassdoor Homeless Shelter. These charities help some of the most vulnerable and dispossessed people in our society.
To support these charities I'll be “living on the breadline" from the 13th to the 17th of November. This means that the cost of everything I eat and drink has to add up to no more than £1 a day. Liking food, and take out coffee (very much), I know this this is going to be hard!
The Helen Bamber Foundation provides therapeutic care, medical consultation and legal protection to victims of human rights violations. They make a real difference to people's lives. I heard this first hand from a refugee, who, having fled severe torture in her home country, rebuilt her life in the UK with thanks to the Helen Bamber Foundation. She said she now lives a happy life, where she can be openly gay.
The second charity I'm supporting is the Glassdoor Homeless Shelter. They help those who have no choice but to sleep rough on London's streets which is particularly important at this time of year, as they run London’s largest emergency winter night shelter network, providing a safe, warm place to sleep for up to 100 men and women a night.
Please do give generously, both as moral support for me during this challenge, and to make sure that those who use the services of the Helen Bamber Foundation and the Glassdoor Homeless Shelter will continue to be supported into the future.
