Story
The Hope Foundation directly assists children in the streets and slums of Kolkata (India) to have a brighter future through education and healthcare as well as protection where they have no home.
This is instead of a childhood working on a rubbish dump collecting plastic and rags from 5am - missing out on school and having very little to look forward to in future, or spending their days on railway tracks begging and collecting leftover rubbish from the carriages. We can't imagine how difficult this would be and children should never have to sacrifice their childhoods like this.
A five year old malnourished street boy has just been treated in the HOPE Hospital. He lives under a flyover with his mother and three siblings who are all malnourished too. He needed two hernia operations as well as ongoing nutritional treatment which the hospital was able to provide him - in a government hospital it would have taken him at least a year to receive treatment.
Another three siblings have received hospital treatment after their mother died in a fire and their father tried to sell them to child traffickers. They will now be placed in our residential homes, which are loving environments in which they'll be able to enjoy their childhood, school, new hobbies and make lots of new friends.
