Derek & I have decided to run the New York Marathon on November 6, 2011 to raise money for The Archie Foundation, this is a charity that raises money for the local children’s hospital in Aberdeen.
As most of you are aware our son Daniel has previously had two extended stays at the Aberdeen sick kids hospital. When he was born he had Gastroschisis whereby his intestines were outside his stomach. He received amazing treatment and made a full recovery in just over a month, approximately half the time than the Doctors had predicted. Then in July last year we went home to Aberdeen for a friends wedding and Daniel took ill, we had to rush him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Pneumococcal Meningitis and he was taken into the High Dependency Unit. After some time he started to improve but then had a major set back when he got Septicaemia and suffered a massive internal bleed, the High Dependency Unit became our home for weeks. Very fortunately Daniel made a full recovery and has had no after effects from his illness.
Derek and I know that without Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and their amazing staff we would not have our son with us today and we commend them and owe our son's life to them twice. During our time in hospital we met several families who were not as fortunate as us and heard from the nurses some heart wrenching stories of the children with terminal illnesses who spend their final days there. We therefore decided to run the marathon to raise money for the hospital and hopefully your money can help aid in more families having the same outcome as we were so blessed to have.
We have put what we consider a fairly ambitious target as we are determined to raise as much money as possible for the Archie Foundation. We truly appreciate any donation that you can give, no matter how big or small it may be.
