Hi,
My friend Nic and I are
completing a self navigation cycle from London to Paris on the 19
th
May this year to raise money for the British Liver Trust. We
plan to leave the 19
th May on a 5 day cycle taking us down to Dover
the first day on a 90 mile trip. Over the water to Calais, and then down to Amiens and Beauvais to end in Paris on the 23
rd
May. It is about 500km. If navigation goes well, we hope to arrive the 22
nd
May!
We have decided to raise money for the British Liver Trust because so much
help is needed to combat the growing number of people diagnosed with liver
disease. We are also doing it for my sister Tammie who is now healthy and well after a 13 year battle against liver disease.
Last year Tammie had a liver transplant
performed at Jimmy’s Hospital in Leeds. She has been very poorly since the age of 21 with sclerosis cholangitis
of her liver; this is chronic disease which causes the bile ducts leading to
the liver to essentially shut down, ultimately leading to liver failure. It
remains unclear what’s causes this disease but it is thought to be autoimmune. She
has suffered a difficult and painful time trying to stay well so she can lead
as normal life as possible. She is now 32 years old. Over the last year of
recovery Tammie’s life has been transformed.
When Tammie was poorly it was a
constant worry but she has remained a complete inspiration to us all. She is a
real fighter, always looking forward. Her fiance Matthew has been her rock, he
has been with her all the way and our family are so thankful to him. Matthew and Tammie get married this summer and its going to
be a big party!
So my friend Nic and
I have put
our heads together to think of a way to give something back. We aim to
raise as much money for the British Liver Trust to support their role
in supporting people with liver disease and helping to prevent liver
disease. It is also for my sister sister tammie to try and represent
some of the courage she has needed to get
through the last 13 years.
Just to give you an insight into who we are; Nic and I are old friends from
little school, we lived in each others pockets playing as much sport as school
would allow. We went to separate Colleges and Universities but kept in touch.
We travelled together in Italy and our sense of adventure is always a
discussion point when we meet. So we have decided to self navigate a cycle trip
from London to Paris using only maps and our terrible sense of direction.
We would be so grateful for your
support and the best way to do this for us is to donate to our just giving page. The British liver trust and us will be so grateful for any
donation you can give, it all helps to achieve something for the charity.
Thank you so much, wish us luck!
Anna and Nic xx
