Losing my eldest brother James to suicide in 2010 had a huge impact on my family and is something that still affects us eight years on. May was the month James passed away and was also the month of his birthday, and so is always a difficult time for us. This year I wanted to do something positive to try to help towards preventing this from happening to anybody else.

So, in the midst of my final year exams I'll be running the Manchester 10k to fundraise for PAPYRUS - Prevention of Young Suicide.  They provide suicide prevention training as well as a confidential helpline for those who have thoughts of suicide, or are worried about someone else who they believe may be considering it. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people aged under 35 in the UK, and yet it remains a taboo that many people won't talk about; PAPYRUS aims to break down the stigma that surrounds suicide and get people talking about it with an aim to prevent it.
