I LOVE to travel. If I could, I would quit working to see the world. This year instead of taking yet another fun and relaxing vacation to the beach to get a tan I decided to go on a "working holiday" instead and joined a group called 25000spins.
25000spins is a nonprofit organisation committed to helping reduce global poverty and making a difference in the world. This July, I will be part of a group of about 20 cyclists cycling from London to Paris (over 225 miles). We will be covering this distance over the course of 4 days. For any of you that have ever been on a bike for longer than an hour you know what this means for my rear!
ADRA is the charity I selected as the funds raised will be going to a pilot project in Tanzania, Africa to help protect and support albino children. Albinos are a particularly vulnerable group for numerous reasons: social stigma, sensitivity to heat due to complexion, poor vision and mysticism. In Tanzania, like most of sub-Saharan African Albinos are believed to possess supernatural powers. As a result, they are at risk for being murdered or mutilated for their body parts which are then sold by witch doctors on the black market. 100% of all the money raised goes directly to ADRA.
Each participant in this ride is responsible not only for his/her own airfare and accommodation but also for meeting an individual fundraising goal of approximately $1800 (1200 british pounds). If I am unable to meet this goal I am responsible for the difference. This the the biggest physical and financial goal I have ever set for myself. Please help me reach my financial goal so you can partner with me by making a difference in the lives of albino children in Tanzania.
No amount is too small. If each of my friends and family donates $5 (or R35 or 1 pound), I will reach my goal. ( 1 dollar= 0.61 British pounds). If you are unable to help financially, I ask that you pray that God blesses our fundraising attempts as well as forward this link to anyone who may be willing and able to help.
