Keratoconus is an eye condition of the cornea which is usually diagnosed in the teens or twenties, so it affects people when they are in education or starting out on their careers. While some are only mildly affected, others will struggle with study and employment. More research is badly needed to increase understanding of the condition and find ways of stopping the progression or (even better!) restoring the cornea to a healthy shape and thickness and avoiding the need for corneal transplants.
