Story

Having been talked into entering the ballot for the Great North Run by Ellie, I was mortified that my entry was actually successful! Luck was not on my side! I am definetely not a runner! However, I have felt guilty as I have become quite accustomed to being a loyal supporter on the sidelines at events but never thrown myself in at the deep end!

So! My training has begun and I think it is fair to say it is not going well!

Don't manage to get out running too much but I sincerely hope it will get easier (it really needs to if I am going to complete 13 miles alive!).

As you all know, we set up the Ryan Stanford Appeal over 2 years ago now, having left Royal Manchester Children's Hospital just before Ryan's 1st birthday with Ryan being diagnosed as having Alpers Syndrome.

It just doesn't seem fair that there is no treatment or cures for this terminal illness and we felt that something should be done about it. All the money raised is paying for a PhD student to carry out a research project specifically into Alpers Syndrome at the Mitochondrial Research Group at Newcastle University.
