Story

Hi everybody - thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2001 I cycled for 5 days in Spain for the Douglas Bader Foundation with a group which included 3 amputees.  The attitude and abilities of the amputees were both awe inspiring and humbling and, despite their amazing spirits and resilience,  it made me appreciate at first hand just how lucky I am to be able bodied.  The amputees themselves and other members of that cycling group raised a huge amount of money for the DBF and I discovered that these "challenges" are one of the most successful ways that chairites have of raising large sums of money.

So here I am, 8 years later, trying to raise more money for this fabulous charity which exists to advance and promote the physical, mental and spiritual welfare of persons without one or more limbs, or otherwise physically disabled.

This time I undertook a 3 day trek in Jordan which I completed on Monday 14 September.  It was over 40c during the day and as I don't usually cope very well in the heat, this in itself was a challenge!  Coupled with hard rocky climbs and trudgingly long trails it was much more difficult than I had anticipated, so much so that the trek doctor nearly stopped me halfway through day 2 due to heat exhaustion!  However he allowed me to continue after a dousing of cold water, a rest and some food and I managed to complete the trek successfully.

The Douglas Bader Foundation is a small charity with equally small overheads and so a good proportion of their funds goes directly to help those who need it. Amputation can occur for so many different reasons - and it could happen to any one of us at any unforeseen moment ... think about it!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Douglas Bader Foundation and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the DBF.

So it would be really great if you would donate now.  Thanks very much.  Annie x
