Help A Local Child, the very own charity of Power FM, awards grants to groups working with children in the local area. HALC raises money by holding events throughout the year in association with the radio station, including Film Premiere's, Fundraising Dinners, sponsored abseils, and sponsored running events.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As you probably know, I am running the Great South Run with Ocean FM in aid of Help A Local Child. I need to raise at least £200 in sponsorship to be eligible to run though so please sponsor me. Thanks. Please feel free to leave an encouraging message with your donation, but please note: I am not responsible for, nor can I edit comments others have left.

If you'd rather not donate online, you can always send me a cheque or crossed postal order made payable to Help A Local Child and I'll make sure it gets to them.

At the moment I can't run for 10 minutes let alone 10 miles so this is probably the biggest physical challenge I have ever undertaken. I hope to keep this page as a bit of a blog (that's an online diary for those who don't know) with regular updates on my progress so please come back regularly to check up on me:-)

Update 8th April: I went for a run tonight and ran (jogged!) for about a mile and a half non-stop. That's the furthest I've run so far, and I'm very pleased with that. Unfortunately, my ulcerative colitis is giving me a bit of trouble at the moment, so I hope I don't get caught short while I'm out - that would be very bad!!!

10th May: Unfortunately, this month I have been mostly plagued by illness and injury so I really haven't progressed at all. I hurt my ankle a few weeks ago, and been pretty much hobbling around all over the show and couldn't run. Also my colitis has been so bad, I have needed to take steroids to combat its effects. Fortunately, the steroids seem to have healed both my ankle, and my tummy, so I'll be fighting fit very very soon, I'm sure.

9th June  Well, on Tuesday it was the first meeting of the Ocean Allstars team. I ran 5k, but I thought I was going to die, as my fitness level has seriously dropped since I've been ill. Mind you it was a bit of a kick up the bum and it has re-motivated me to carry on. The picture was taken on the evening and can also be found on the oceanfm.com website which will tell you all about the Ocean Allstars.

23rd August Well 2 months to go and I'm nowhere near ready. I spent 2 weeks in hospital in June so that put me right back, fitness wise. I'm now up and about and trying to get my fitness level back, but I don't think I'l be able to run 10 miles in 2 months' time. I'm determined to do it though, run or walk. I won't let anyone down, I promise.

4th September Had my penultimate training session tonight. It went really well - I managed to run over 2 miles, which is the furthest I've manage since being in hospital. Really chuffed with myself. I met Rick Jackson who's the new team captain of Ocean Allstars - he seems like a really nice bloke.

Fundraiser if anyone is near Gosport, then please pop into my bring and buy book sale which is at my house on 29th September from 12 noon. There's going to be a prize raffle, refreshments etc, and what better way is there to get shot of your old books. All money rasied will go towards my fundraising target for HALC.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: GCap Charities - Help A Local Child - Ocean FM, Hampshire will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
