Instead I will be doing this via a combination of peddle and paddle power (no one could think of another form of transport that had ‘P*DDLE’ in it!). We will start from the North summerset coast (apparently coast to coast isn’t long enough!) and cycle 50 miles to Cyst St Mary. Once there we will spend the night in a tipi and survive on ration packs (yes, still making harder for ourselves…..worth a few more pounds?). Day two we will ride into down to the quay to board our waiting canoes for the paddle part of the events. From the quay we will then paddle down river to the turf locks where the canal ends with final lock gate to the sea and effectively the sea/coast (and obviously much celebration!).
All the funds raised from this event will be going towards and the purchase of camping gear and equipment for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. As any one who has done the Duke of Edinburgh award will know it is extremely rewarding building confidence, useful life skills and a general great adventure. This is all extra special and relevant for deaf children who can often be isolated from normal experiences and it will be a far greater accomplishment for them.
Please give generously not only for all my hard work (there’s been a lot of training too!) but for the kids and their chance to have a greater achievement than my trip coast to coast.
