Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year a friend of mine tragically lost his brother-in-law to pneumonia 2 days after his 37th birthday. He has left behind his wife and 2 young sons.
The family have been supported through this extremely difficult time by the charity Winstons Wish who help young people rebuild their lives after the loss of their parents or siblings.
After hearing about this terrible event I have agreed to join a team of 14 other crazy cyclists and take part in a gruelling 6 day cycle ride across the Pyrenees in Southern France from 22nd - 27th June this year to help raise money for this worthy charity.
To give you some statistics on the ride...
the 'Biking for Ben' team will traverse the pyrenees mountains with a coast to coast distance of 630 km (400miles) over 6 days with an ascent of over 55,000 feet (approx. 10 miles or 16kms). There are 12 Cols to climb and they are all horrible. So horrible in fact, that some say the Tour de France organisers (unlike our organisers) include only a few of them each year to ensure riders don't go on strike (strikes or 'greves' are common in France). You may have heard of the famous Col du Tourmalet, Col d'Aubisque and Col d'Aspin, the three most used Cols in the 100 year history of the race. You may well of noticed that I have recently stepped up my training, there's only 10 weeks until this event begins and in my current state I'm nowhere near fit enough to complete this challenge. I would really appreciate and be inspired if you guys could dig deep and support me in completing this ride. It's for an amazing cause and it will also personally push my pain barriers to places they've never been before. Sitting in the saddle for 8 hours a day for 6 days solid is not a nice thought!!
