I am married with two children; I also unfortunately have Leukaemia and am in desperate need of a stem cell donor. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the donor needs to be Asian and aged between 18 and 40.

I was shocked to learn however that Asians make up only 4% of donors on the database. We need to change this not just for me but for all Asians stricken with this horrible disease.

This illness does not discriminate, I was fit, healthy, went to the gym and played football, it really didn’t make a difference. It could strike any one of us we need to improve the odds by getting more Asian donors registered. The actual process for the donor is surprisingly simple and straightforward for those with the illness however it is literally life saving.

I have been really humbled by the fantastic campaign currently being run by family, friends and colleagues, in fact there are some people I have never met that are doing incredible things. The campaign is being coordinated through the Anthony Nolan Charity which has been truly amazing.

The process of getting volunteers onto the database however does come at a cost, there is no charge to the donor but the harsh economic reality is that each spit test kit and the subsequent lab testing costs money as does the later donation process…Hence this page… the Anthony Nolan Charity do fantastic work your donation however small will help them to carry on doing it…we really should not have to go abroad to international databases when we have so many British Asians living in this country.
