Ok so you think the three peaks is some poxy up-and-down hike right? That's what we thought when we signed up too. That's before we realised they were only the three highest peaks of England, Scotland and Wales!
Oh yeah... and we need to thrash them within 24 hours, including driving!
With the support of our great mate Chad we figure if we start Ben Nevis at 5pm (2 hrs North of Glasgow) it's possible to climb 1344m up it, drive 7hrs to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike (978m) then finally drive another 3hrs to Snowdonia to climb Snowdon (1344m) and be back at the bottom before happy hour. Personally we're doubtful, but then that's why we've set up this page!... we wanted to do something challenging together in 2010 and raise some money for charity and here we are!
So on the morning of Friday August 6th 2010 we're flying up to Glasgow to meet Chad, pick up a rental and start the gruelling journey. Some of the harder parts will include decending Ben Nevin in the dark at around 10pm, ascending Scafell Pike at around 4am as the sun comes up, then finally dragging our asses up Snowdon when our feet have turned to mush and we've had little or no sleep in the back of our luxury rental with Chad's driving! Happily there's a boozer at the top of Snowdon so we can squeeze in a pre-emptive celebratory cider if we make it in time.
So please, in the light that this will hurt (a lot), dig into those pockets of yours to help our cause. We are raising money for 'Go MAD (Make A Difference) in Tanzania', a very worthy charity helping build practical infrastructure in one of the poorest areas in The World. This is a place where if you're not in drought or starving then you're probably at least an orphan or have HIV - I'm overdramatising for your pity of course, but seriously, these people are just like you and me but without any of the privilages we've been lucky enough to have. You can find all their details at http://www.gomadintanzania.org.uk/ and we're sure you'll agree there aren't many more deserving charities.
This event will be totally self-funded with no part of your donation going towards costs. In fact, Chad has kindly requested that payment for his services is put directly into the pot... Good man Chad!
Here's the official bit...
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
All that's left it say is a great big thank you to all those of you who are supporting us... we've had loads of interest in what we're doing and we're truly grateful to everyone for that.
Wish us luck and all the best!
Tam and Ant x
