My story

___________

Update: Gone from 0-25 minutes continuous running in six weeks. A few weeks to go and I should be hitting that 5km half way point. Please keep the sponsorship money coming through, it really helps when I'm feeling the muscle burn!

____________

Those of you who know me, also know that I'm reluctant to run for busses, let alone running 10km (that's 6 miles to you and me) for charity. But with my 30th year looming and a recently discovered '30 things to do before I'm 30' list, I've decided it's time to smash three targets in one go; help charities, be comfortable with my weight and run a 5km race.

So stupidly I doubled the last target for myself because I was taken in by the prestige of the The British 10K London Run and the fact that the run is 15 days before the Olympics start. A little bit like with my round the world travels, I think I may have signed up to something without thinking it through first.

So a little bit about my chosen charity....Again, those of you who know me will know that I'm not a stranger to crying over old people in public. My mum says it's patronising, I say it's overwhelming empathy, either way I think it's time to stop getting teary about it and help the people who can make a difference. Age UK works with and for older people living in London, a city which can be difficult enough to live in if you're fit and healthy, but what must be a daunting experience when you are less financially secure, less mobile and have a smaller support network on which to rely.

Well, if all that hasn’t persuaded you to dig deep in your pockets, then I’ll be keeping you all up to date giving the gruesome details of my efforts to get fit in time for the race on 8 July. Hopefully the harsh reality of my tweets, Facebook statuses and blog updates will make you feel sorry for me and encourage you to donate some money to a well worthy cause.
