Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm rowing a traditional Irish rowing boat - a currach - from the mainland to the Aran Islands, crossing some fairly wild seas and swirling currents. It's not been done in the modern era, certainly not by a man with appalling technique and no sense of direction. I've rowed a currach twice in local regattas, going round and round and sideways a lot, but am training like a madman for the challenge of my life.
All the money raised will go towards a rescue pontoon for stranded whales and dolphins along the Irish coast. There are about 150 strandings a year round Ireland, and only two pontoons for the entire country. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, the Marine Conservation Society and the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group are combining with a sea sick man in a small boat to try to buy another one. It could make a huge difference for the next whale or dolphin to strand - getting the right kit to the right place in time is crucial.
Thanks for your donation - every single penny counts.
Hoping for fair winds and flat seas!
Best, Monty
