As many of you will know Pip and I have had the chance to meet and Ski with the Combined Services Disabled Ski Team over the last couple of years and have been struck by the courage and commitment of all those involved, both managers and competitors.
Getting a team like this to the slopes to train and compete is major logistical challenge for all concerned. Once there a careful balance has to be struck between providing the correct levels of support for the team members and the need to train hard on the snow. Striking this balance is labour and resource intensive costing significant amounts of money.
The team provides not only a focus for the rehabilitation of servicemen but more importantly an opportunity for members to compete at the very highest level. The Team are currently waiting for confirmation that three of their number will be accepted into the British Disabled Ski Team this year with a focus on getting to the Sochi Olympics in 2014.
What we raise will go towards covering some of the logistics costs and also helping with some of the significant costs associated with the specialised equipment that the team require.
Sadly, the nature of the conflict in Afghanistan and in particular the use of IED's means that this team is growing.
Please give generously and thanks for your support.
