Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Amsterdam marathon on the 20 of October. While it is going to fulfil a personal goal and will be a means to get fit before I turn 30 (!!!) at the end of October, the main reason I am entering is to raise funds for the National Association of Children of Alcoholics (NACOA).
NACOA is a tiny charity of just two full time and two part time employees, supported by a team of 327 volunteers that helps kids growing up in families with parents affected by alcoholism.
My dad was an alcoholic and died from the disease in October 2010. As a kid, I didn’t have access to the type of support NACOA offer and only since his death have I begun to realise the impact it had on me.
For many of you, this will be the first time you’ve heard me speak of my father, as this has not something I have openly shared. This year though, I want to move out of its shadow by partaking in a personally symbolic, physical challenge to mark the three year anniversary of his death, and turn it into a positive time of the year by helping to raise funds for a charitable cause that I am so personally touched by.
To reach this goal I need your help.
I want to raise £3,000 to helps kids who are affected by alcoholism and am asking you to donate, however big or small.
Your hard earned pounds will be put to great use:
· £60 pays for NACOA’s free phone children helpline for a week.
· £400 pays to train a new volunteer helpline counsellor
· £800 keeps the helpline running for 6 weeks.
Huge thanks to those that can get behind me and throw some money in the pot.
