Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

Welcome to the Running for Batten's Just Giving page

Ascot is participating in the ASICS British 10K London Run in support of the invaluable work done by the Batten Disease Family Association (BDFA)

Batten Disease is the main paediatric neurodegenerative genetic disorder in the UK.  A child will be born apparently healthy before developing epilepsy, losing the ability to see, walk, talk and eat, as well as developing dementia, before dying a premature death between the ages of 5 - 30.  To date there is no cure.

The BDFA is the UK's only dedicated Batten Disease support and research charity.  Its principal aim is to provide the families and professionals with support and guidance, giving the affected children, young adults and families the tools to be able to continue to live life and reach their maximum potential.

The support and donations received  for this run will be going to help fund a specific project for the charity: the Juvenile Batten Disease Information Book.  This book will contain all the information parents of children / young adults diagnosed with Batten Disease need to access the services they will require over the years, including information on health, welfare choices, equipment needs and examples of emergency care plans. Ultimately it will be a complete compendium of all the information that we can offer a family living with Juvenile Batten Disease.

The cost of this book is £5K, our fundraising target

We appreciate that numerous emails are received asking for donations for worthy causes on a regular basis, however, please don't let this be one of those times when your donation is put off until tomorrow, when that Starbucks or chocolate bar are more important - Please take this opportunity to spare some change and make a difference! No short arms and deep pockets!!

Thank you for your support
