I'm raising money for an organisation called Survival International. They work to raise awareness of the human rights and environmental problems affecting indiginous people all around the world - people like the Penan of Malaysia.
The Penan live in Sarawak, on the island of Borneo. For generations, they have been the guardians of one of the few areas of virgin rainforest left on earth, and since their contact with the Malaysian state, they have been trying to save their way of life, threatened by the licenses being granted to clear the forest.
Unbelievably this year, permission has been granted to clear vast areas of forest to make room for destructive palm oil plantations, which will be used for cosmetics and biofuels.
Their struggle affects us all in obvious ways, so on September 24th-27th, I'll be walking a hundred kilometres across the south coast to raise money and awareness for Survival.
Absolutely anything you can give will help - everything welcome.
But even if you cant give anything today, you can still help - next time you buy cosmetics or food, check the label and make sure its palm oil free. Its a little thing, and it could save acres of rainforest, dozens of unique animals like orangs and the way of life of an entire culture.
