Story
Target Ovarian Cancer is a charity which until recently I knew very little about; however, I have quickly learned how pivotal the charity is in not only finding new treatments for ovarian cancer through funding national research, but improving early diagnosis of the illness. The charity is at the forefront of improving early diagnosis as a result of their campaigning for a nationally-led programme to improve symptom awareness and their direct training with women, GP'S and other medical professionals across the UK.
There is an urgent need to make progress in discovering new life-extending treatments for ovarian cancer as there has been none in the last 20 years and sadly the UK has amongst the lowest ovarian cancer survival rates in Europe. Ovarian cancer doesn’t get the same exposure or global awareness that breast cancer receives and the only way to improve that is by educating people about the importance of symptom awareness and early diagnosis.
Thank you to all of you amazing people for being so kind in making a donation and supporting me in running the Edinburgh Marathon. I am very excited not to mention slightly apprehensive of the 26 mile journey but I’m honoured to be running on behalf of such a pioneering charity that is now very close to my heart.
