Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been a Police Officer for 21 years joining Avon & Somerset Constabulary in 1990 before transferring to Northumbria Police in 1994.

In 2006 after two years of increasing pain I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips. After considering all my options I underwent a hip resurfacing operation on my right hip in October 2007. This gave me instant relief but soon the pain increased in my left hip and so in March 2010 I underwent another operation.

I have since steadily recovered largely helped by the visits I made to the Police Treatment Centres at Auchterarder and Harrogate. The staff there were extremely helpful and I am positive that the extra physiotherapy and advice that I received has greatly improved my recovery.

While at the Centres I met officers from all over the country there for a variety of problems who were all benefitting from a fabulous facility. Thanks to their help I hope to be able to return to operational duties this year.

So to the challenge - About two years ago my friend David Holmes suggested that he would like to do a Lands End to John 'O' Groats bike ride to raise money for charity. Like a fool I said "That sound like a good idea. Count me in!". So this is what we will be doing. Starting on 15th June we will set off from Lands End and complete the total distance of 1000 miles in 9 days ably backed up by David's dad who will be our support driver.

David is covering all the costs of accomodation so that all the money I raise will go straight to the Treatment Centres.
