Why am I doing this climb? I'd like to help build water wells which are a sustainable water source for the poor people of Africa - Nuff said!
What Islamic Help have to say?
Water, the source of life, is a precious commodity and it is thought that over half of humanity has water problems of one sort or another. Over 1.1 billion people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water and over 2.6 billion lack basic sanitation. The average distance to the moon is 384 400 km, African women walk the equivalent of this and back 16 times a day just to fetch water. 16 million people in Africa have no water supply and the nearest water supply is, on average, a kilometre away. Access to safe, clean and affordable drinking water has always been a priority for Islamic Help; we are committed to improving such access in several countries including: Niger, Sudan, Gambia Tanzania, Mali, Somalia, Pakistan & Bangladesh
