Asylum Support Appeals Project (ASAP) helps the most disadvantaged people in the country. We provide free legal advice and representation to asylum seekers living in extreme poverty to help them secure basic housing and financial support. Most of the people we help are from countries with well documented records on human rights violations, such as Iran, Iraq and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and include victims of torture, families and pregnant women. Without ASAP, asylum seekers are much more likely to end up street homeless as someone who speaks little English, has no knowledge of the law and is very vulnerable, is not able to make their own case for support.

Sponsoring our walkers will help people like "Sarah" who had HIV but had been refused support. Sarah was living with a friend but her friend did not understand HIV thinking she and her children could be infected by touch. She had to sleep in the hall on a plastic sheet and was not allowed to use the bathroom or kitchen or touch anything. She could not prepare food which led to her skipping her HIV medication, which could not be taken on an empty stomach. ASAP successfully represented her in her appeal arguing she was destitute because her accommodation was inadequate as she could not eat, wash or have covers to sleep under.

There is no free legal aid for this type of work so ASAP is dependent on charitable trusts and donations for funding. Please help us by sponsoring our walkers as generously as you are able.  To find out more about ASAP go to www.asaproject.org.uk
