We fund research and support services to help all those affected by ataxia

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have had Cerebella Ataxia for over 50 years and I found that travelling to Ataxia UK meetings in London was difficult, so with the help of Ataxia UK I started in April 2009 a NW London Ataxia Support Group. This was to allow those with Ataxia living in or around NW London to meet up and provide mutual support to each other without having to travel too far. This proved so successful that as a group we decided in July 2011 to become a fully-fledged branch. By becoming a branch it has meant that as Chairperson, I and my fellow committee members, have had to take on a number of responsibilities including fundraising for Ataxia UK. We have adopted a number of approaches but recently a number of friends suggested that a sponsored walk would be a good idea and that they would volunteer to walk. So with their help I co-organised a Windsor to Shepperton, Thames Walk.

The Windsor to Shepperton, Thames Walk took place on Sunday 16 June and followed as closely as possible the banks of the Thames between Windsor and Shepperton, a journey of approximately 14 miles:- The Walk. Here are some pictures from the walk.

Our walkers set up their own “Just Giving” pages for sponsorship. I did not walk myself, I just helped to supply much needed water to the very thirsty walkers on route! However I’d like you all to know about this event and give you the opportunity to associate yourselves with it by making a donation to Ataxia UK.  To read more about Ataxia UK please visit their website:- Ataxia UK and our NW London Branch website:- Ataxia UK NW London.

Remember currently there is no cure for people with Ataxia and donations we receive help fund research that we hope will find a cure. Ataxia UK has a vision that by 2020 we will have a cure:- 2020 Vision. By donating to Ataxia UK you can help turn that vision into reality.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Ataxia UK. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for Ataxia UK.

Thank you
