Transplant Links (TLC) links volunteer medical teams in the UK with hospitals in developing countries, to help them acquire the skills to run living kidney transplant programmes within families - allowing one member of a family to give their kidney and save the life of their relative, often a child.

Story

The www.ride2give.com Team: Gary Roche, Dan Bridgeman & Geoff Clarkson

So what are we up to? In May 2010 we intend to cycle 1,200 km in 9 days from Sydney to Melbourne the hard way across the Australian Alps in aid of Transplant Links.

The route we plan to take is the Raid Aurora, an epic route linking Australia's two biggest cities and passing through the nation’s capital. It passes through a variety of landscapes including remote alpine, coastal, farming and national parks. This journey is challenging in both the mountainous terrain it covers and its duration, which requires us to cover a avaerage of 133km per day for 9 days without a rest day or 85 miles in old money.

As this journey passes through high alpine country, it is essential that we are prepared for all types of weather conditions, from extreme heat to extreme cold. Temperatures along some parts of this route can exceed 40 degrees centigrade during February.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Transplant Links and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
