On May 25th I'll be dusting off my gloves and sqauring up for the Greenhouse Charity. I've been through an intense regime, lifiting weights, running miles, punching bags and drinking raw egg yolks (not really!). There's still more to come.
Like most of you reading this, sport played a big part of my chilhood. I played every kind possible from Basketball to Bowling. I was lucky enough to have parents that encouraged me to get involved, compete but ultimately, have fun. Some may say I haven't stopped having fun since!
Greenhouse have a series of projects to help Young people in disadvantaged communities have access to sports that were the norm to me.
Greenhouse deliver structured sport and performing arts programmes in schools and community clubs in areas of high deprivation, reaching out to include, Young people from marginalised groups and Young people with disabilities and special educational needs.
They do this by engaing the kids in full-time programmes, first class coaching, mentoring, competitions and volunteering opportunities.
The programmes work. Research found that Greenhouse helped young people:
- Feel better about themselves (88%)
- Attend school regularly (94%)
- Understand the importance of good behaviour (88%)
- Feel happy at school (87%)
- Feel physically fit (88%)
Just think...
£20 will give one young person 6 hours of coaching and mentoring for a week...
£240 will give that young person the same amount of support for a whole year...
So get your wallets and purses out and give what you can!
Thanks
