What did we do?
On March 14th, 2010, sisters Tanveer, Rihana, Aabida and Nargis successfully ran the world's first Kilomathon (26.2km/16.3m), which began in Nottingham and ended in Derby. Tanveer, like her sister Rihana, is a very recent recent breast cancer survivor and is in the midst of treatment (she received 3 of her 15 sessions of radiotherapy prior to the race). Despite her treatments, Tanveer finished as strong as her sisters and with a smile just as big.

Why did we do it?
We are all women in our 30s and 40s who have recently taken up running. In fact, other than Rihana, the other three sisters had never run a mile before they began training for this event. We've all faced many obstacles and challenges in our lives, breast cancer being the most recent for two of us and training for the race became a source of strength and bonding for us all. We want to inspire women of all ages, especially those in the South Asian community, to exercise and take care of their health – and to emphasize that it's never too late to begin.

Also...
Our own challenges continue to remind us of the challenges people without resources face in the developing world when illness strikes. For this reason, our family started the Raja Azam AFL Fund in memory of our father to support the work of The Noor Foundation UK, which has set up 18 kidney dialysis centres throughout remote regions of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir in the last decade. These centres provide FREE life-saving dialysis treatment to the poor. With adequate dialysis treatment, patients can live full, productive lives for years, even decades.

Specifically, the Raja Azam AFL Fund adopts patients at the Mirpur (AK) Dialysis Centre and guarantees them FREE treatment for life. Since we started the Fund 20 months ago, we have raised over £22,000 which equates to a year's FREE treatment for 22 patients. We are proud to say 100% of all money we have raised goes towards life-saving dialysis treatment. Not a penny is spent on administration – all costs are absorbed by volunteers of the Raja Azam AFL Fund and The Noor Foundation UK. For more info, please visit: www.azamfund.org

What your donation will provide:
• £12 = one free life-saving treatment
• £100 = a month of free life-saving treatment
• £1,200 = a year of free life-saving treatment

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Raja Azam AFL Fund/The Noor Foundation UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

We went the distance, please help us go beyond our fund-raising target and help save lives!
