We aim to enhance the care to all at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust

Story

The Bury Free Press “Beat it” campaign aims to raise £55,000 towards the cost of an important piece of equipment which will save hundreds of lives by helping to detect prostate cancer in men across west Suffolk.

Prostate cancer kills one person every hour and is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. As with all cancers, it’s important to detect it early to increase the chances of treatment being successful.

We’ve joined forces with West Suffolk Hospital to raise funds for a new ultrasound machine, called a TRUS (trans-rectal ultrasound and biopsy), which will help diagnose prostate cancer. The top-of-the-range machine will be used to test around 1,000 men each year and will replace current equipment at the hospital, which is now ten-years-old. The newultrasound is smaller and more portable than the model it will replace, and will provide specialist clinicians with reliable, high quality images to help with diagnosis.

We’ll be holding lots of fundraising events throughout 2013 and are encouraging you, our readers, to do the same. We’ll be bringing you regular updates about the campaign in the Bury Free Press, while you can also keep up to date by following our special @BfpBeatIt account on Twitter.

Please give us your support and help us to save lives by raising money for this important piece of equipment.
