The British Horse Society has spoken repeatedly about Britain’s equine overpopulation crisis. The welfare sector is still dealing with the same problems that we were this time last year, the year before – and the year before that. 

We need to take action. We need to be proactive.

That is why the BHS Appeal for 2015 is castration clinics, and this is where we need your help.

Castration clinics cost money, but they do make a difference. We urgently need you to become involved, donate and fundraise.

Every single pound we can raise will be spent on castrating colts and stallions and therefore making a real difference to the horrendous equine overpopulation problem that the BHS and other charities are battling with every single day. For just a couple of pounds you can make a real and tangible difference to the future of the creatures you adore. 

The more we raise, the more horses we can castrate and the fewer foals with uncertain (at best) futures will be born. 

If, as a result of this campaign, just one foal isn’t born that would end up in the welfare system we will have saved an enormous amount of money (as well as obviously preventing that foal from suffering). We could probably run more than 30 clinics for the price of the rescue, rehabilitation and prosecution of one particularly serious welfare case.

How many unwanted foals will this prevent? It’s impossible to say, but in a few generations it is easy to see how the number could well be into the thousands. 

It will make a real difference. The more money we raise, the more we will castrate. Imagine if we could castrate a thousand – it really would mean that in a few years’ time we might not have to worry about Britain’s horse crisis. 

And we might, once more, be able to hold up our head as a nation of animal lovers.
