Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

To celebrate my birthday on August 8th 2105, I am planning a series of activities for the five days leading up to it. I would be pleased if you would like to join me for any or all of these activities.

Monday August 3rd

Leaving Eaglesfield at 8.00 a.m., I plan to cycle all the major climbs in the Lake District; Whinlatter, Newlands, Honister, Troutbeck Moor, Kirkstone, Dunmail, Red Bank, Langdale, Wrynose and Hardknott, Irton, Cold Fell, Kelton Head and back into Eaglesfield - a round of about 120 miles.

Tuesday August 4th

A rock climbing day, visiting some old haunts like Shepherds' in Borrowdale, Gillercombe, Coombe Ghyll and possibly Gable Crags.

Wednesday August 5th

This will involve a new skill for me for which I am having instruction. I plan to row (the proper stuff) single-handed the length of Derwentwater and back, a total distance of about 8k.

Thursday August 6th

Again at Keswick, a swim circuit of about 3 miles visiting the main islands of Derwentwater.

Saturday August 8th

A personal re-run of the Lakeland Mountain Triathlon. I co-organised this event for eleven years. The event involves a one mile swim in Crummock, the first stint on the bike, into Lorton Valley, over Whinlatter, Grange in Borrowdale, and then ride up to Seathwaite. The run route involves Taylor Ghyll, Sty Head and the Corridor Route up to Scafell Pike, then return via Esk Hause and down Grains Ghyll. The concluding cycle takes in Honister Pass, Butrtermere, Crummock and the finish at Loweswater Village Hall. I plan to leave Loweswater at 8.00 a.m..

I intend-to use the activities to raise funds and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Please support.
