Lupus is a chronic auto immune disease that results in immune system attacks on the body’s cells and tissue. This results in inflammation and tissue damage. The disease can occur at any age and is commonly found in women between ages 15-45 and can be fatal.
This time, we’re walking for 5.5km to raise money for the purchase of the Eppendorf 5430. This is equipment used to isolate DNA & RNA cells from patients’ blood samples and an essential tool for research into Lupus. In August 2005, Barbara passed away from the disease and so the charity aims to improve the lives of those with Lupus through giving support to its sufferers, raising general awareness of the disease and supporting research into it (which is very important as many people are unaware that they have it!). The walk is just one of many things we can do in order to make this happen!
