2009 GRIM Challenge · 5 December 2009 ·

The British Skin Foundation is the only charity in the UK dedicated to funding research into skin disease and skin cancer. We fund groundbreaking studies that uncover the causes of skin disease and drive new treatments. We believe in healthy skin for everyone.

Story

So what are we up to!

On 6th December, 11 members of the "BMI Healthcare Procurement Team" will be running the Grim Challenge. These hardcore gladiators are:

Claire Hasler, Jason Hession, Meenakshi Kanda, Sophie Shergill, Sally Bennett, Matthew Oxley, Udi Silva, Jerry Syder, Svetlana Belova, Chris Georgiou and Nick Barnes

For those who have heard of the Grim Challenge will know this isn't a walk in the park! Its an 8 mile dash, over land used to test Army vehicles. There's hills, water filled ravines, puddle-strewn paths and camouflage netting, not to mention what can only be discribed as a waist deep lake that will zap the heat from our exhausted bodies! The ones lucky enough to lead this event will soon realise that they are breaking the ice for the ones behind!

So why put ourselves through such an ordeal?

Well, one reason is to raise £5k for the British Skin Foundation. For those who have lived with any skin disease will know just how distressing it can be. Every year there are 40,000 new cases of skin cancer reported and 20% of all children have ecezema. The number of people suffering from skin disease grows each day. Even though many skin diseases are not life threatening they can have a huge impact on family life and in many cases the disease is a disability and stops people from doing everyday activities.

In the past 3 years the BSF has awarded over £1,842,000 into a range of studies search for cures and treatments for some of these terrible diseases and hopefully we can do our bit to help raise even more.

Please give as generously as you can.

Thanks for all your support!
