Story

<p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">Balraj Singh, age 35<br>Son of Gurbaksh Singh, village Patival, Batala, Gurdaspur</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">First arrested in November 1999 in Bombay by LCB crime branch. For the next 6 months he was interrogated by different agencies.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">History of incarceration:</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">First kept for one month in Kaliaan Jail.<br>Dec 1999 &ndash; April 2000 Ratnagari Jail, Bombay<br>April 2000 &ndash; May 2000 Thana Jail<br>May 2000 &ndash; Oct 2004 Kulapur Jail<br>Oct 2004 &ndash; Aug 2005 Ratnagari Jail<br>Aug 2005 &ndash; July 2010 Puna Jail<br>July 2010 &ndash; Oct 2011 Kulapur Jail</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">Was released from Kulapur Jail on 28&nbsp;Oct 2011<br><br>Some disturbing facts:</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">11 years in prison only 3 family visits<br>No family support as mother and father deceased<br>No lawyer, Balraj Singh was found innocent in 6 cases against him, but in one case was found guilty and given a life senctene as he had no legal representation to argue his case.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: medium;">When he was arrested he was shot in the chest, he was given only basic medical assistance. Despite many appeals he was not allowed any medical help, he wrote many letters to the authorities but he was ignored. The bullet remained in his chest for 11 years and affected him more and more. As Balraj Singh has now been released he is free to get medical help. He has had some initial check ups and it was found that the bullet is very close to his heart, so he may have to have bypass surgery the estimated cost is &pound;2500</p> </p>
