This month we are donating to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Watford General Hospital, as suggested by Mandy White in the Watford office.
Here is a personal message from Mandy:
When my twin boys were born they were 2 months early and not fully developed and ready for the big bad world. They were immediately rushed off to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Watford General Hospital. They spent in a month in the Unit and pretty much so did I.
The staff at the Unit were absolutely fantastic, not only do they deal with babies with a whole range of needs and give each child all the care they would give to their own (they really do) but they also deal with all their bewildered, scared and anxious parents on a daily basis too. They manage to give attention to everyone who needs it and my family and I never felt like we were a burden or pulling them away from more important tasks (which we probably were).
They taught me how to care for my tiny babies from changing nappies, washing them and feeding them (Luke & Zach were born before the ability to suck had developed so were tube fed) to the medications I had to give them, what signs to look out for to spot any problems and how to administer first aid to a tiny baby.
It was an emotional time but made so much more manageable because I totally trusted the staff who were caring for my little boys when I wasn't able to be with them. The care provided by the Unit carried on as we prepared to take our babies home and even once we left the hospital they were always happy to be called day or night with any questions we had. I'm very happy to tell you that Luke & Zach are now healthy happy little boys and full of energy and mischief!
As with lots of hospital departments they don't have the funding they need to get all the equipment they need from big things like Incubators - extremely important for premature babies as I'm sure you know, to really little things that make a big difference such as bottle warmers. These are the sort of things that your money will go towards purchasing, at the moment I know they are trying to raise money for new Incubators and I can promise you that in the whole time my boys were at SCBU I never saw an Incubator that wasn't in use.
Thank you for your donations this Champagne Friday, I'm really proud to raise money for this brilliant Unit at Watford General Hospital.
Therefore, all money raised via Dress Down will be donated directly to Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Watford General Hospital.
So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you for deciding to support the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Charity. We provide funding for extra equipment and better facilities to improve the welfare of all hospital patients in the West Hertfordshire area. We also provide funds to support staff training and education which in turn will better equip our nurses to provide a much higher standard of care.
