Excellent Development - Kilimanjaro Challenge · 15 September 2010 ·

Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously & terminally ill children live life to the full, creating wonderful memories & bringing back a sense of normality to family life. Through specialist nursing & emotional support Claire House helps families smile when life couldn’t get any tougher.

Story

Following the success of last year’s Mega Hike, which raised £3,000 for Mediequip4kids, the B&M team is aiming even higher this year by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Bobby Potter employee at B & M will lead the team as they head up Africa’s tallest mountain.

At 5895m – or over 3.5 miles high – Kilimajaro is no easy challenge. Unlike many mountains where you start at a height, Kilimajaro is free standing, so you have to climb for over 4,600m. That is 1000m more than climbing Everest from the Southern base camp! So it’s hardly surprising that almost all Kilimanjaro climbers will experience altitude sickness in some shape or form, and only 40% of them actually make it to the summit.

However, if past achievements are anything to go by, you can be sure the B&M team will be in that successful group, especially when they are inspired by raising money for such a worthy cause as Claire House.

B & M’s team includes Chairman Ken Curtis and his two sons Graham and Paul Curtis, B&M employee Bobby Potter and his girlfriend Rachel Tunna and Ken’s friend Frank Berry. They will be attempting the climb this September, and the more sponsorship they attract, the more inspired they will be to reach the roof of Africa, so please give generously.
