Story
We are employees of Banks Sadler - a full service event management agency raising money for The Institute of Cancer Research.
Matt (IT Team London), Cathy (Events Team London ), Gosia (Events Team London ), Stuart (Venue Find Team York) - we all cycle to work every day and as part of our love to cycling we have decided to combine cycling and helping at the same time.
Why to Paris? Because we are trying to connect our Banks Sadler offices - York - London - Paris. Just 3 to start, but who knows, Dusseldorf next and then New York?
We’ll be holding a number of fundraising events over the next few months so do pop back to see details of how we are getting on!
Of course, there are millions of other causes your money can be put to, all of them desperately needed, but we really appreciate your support in helping us reach our mammoth target!
We have decided to raise funds for the Institute of Cancer Research (Charity Registration Number 534147) for a number of reasons.
The institute of Cancer Research is a public research institute that has, over the years, been responsible for a multitude of scientific breakthroughs that have led directly to the development of many of the drugs used to treat the disease. Highlights of the Institute’s discoveries include:
· * The discovery that damage to DNA is the cause of cancer
· * Proving the link between smoking and lung cancer
· * Isolating the gene responsible for Breast Cancer
Without the research carried out by the Institute of Cancer Research since it was founded in 1909, it is reasonable to say that many more people would have succumbed to the disease.
Unfortunately, cancer has claimed the lives of some of our close friends and family and the memories of these people will therefor provide a powerful incentive for us to ensure we complete the challenge of riding from London to Paris, 300 miles, in 4 days
