Alzheimer Scotland is the leading, national dementia charity in Scotland. Our mission is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide advice, information and support and we are here for people living with dementia, their families and carers across Scotland.

Story

Thank you for visiting my page.  I have run marathons before, but this time I wanted to make my training count!  I have chosen to raise money for Alzheimer's for two reasons:-

1)  My gran had dementia before she passed away.  It is horrendous watching someone you love deteriorate before your eyes, and how this affected the rest of the family; and

2) Through my work, I deal with a lot of people who are on the verge of dementia or with the families if dementia has already set in.  I have seen husbands sitting by the bed of their wives day after day, and the wives no longer recognise them or realise their husband is there.  And vice versa.  Sometimes I have seen a flicker of light in their eyes, as the person who was once inside comes out again.  But the flicker soon fades and they are transported back to being patients in the care home, completely reliant on the staff, friends and family to try provide what stimulation they can and make the quality of life as best as they can.

Alzheimer provides support to the family of those affected by dementia and tries to improve the quality of life of sufferers.  Any donation to this worthwhile cause would be greatly appreciated!  Don't forget to tick the Gift Aid box if you are a taxpayer!

Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a taxpayer.

Thanks,

Barbara
