Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Wheels for Change JustGiving page. On Friday 9 September, we will be a taking part in the Barclays Wheels for Change 100km London Sportive. Wheels for Change is an annual cycling challenge led by Barclays colleagues to raise money for charity.  This year, Wheels for Change is raising money for the Prince's Trust, which specifically focuses on 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed, struggling at school or at risk of exclusion.

Mark Hubbard will be leading out the tax peloton. The domestiques include: Chris McCandless, Richard Lizzimore, Nat Collins, Robin Prince, Sam Wallis, Mai Trinh, Alex Chow, Martin Connolly, Chris Wallace, Neil Brennan, Kate Wootton, Lauren Evans, Sarah Maxwell-Scott, Jake Wilson, Ammo Sandhawalia, Zafir Khan and Agata Gut.

This is how the day unfolded on 18 September 2015:

Bright and early in the morning, Simon, our tax peloton leader, was already jumping up and down and in his usual energetic ‘raring to go, can’t wait to start, let’s do it’ mode.  We were one of the 1st team at the start line and there was buzz and excitement around the iconic Olympics Park velodrome.

We left the hustle and bustle of the city behind and were soon filling the beautiful countryside of Essex with a wave of Barclays blue.  Even the sun came out dancing through the fields. For some of us, there were at times difficult moments pushing personal boundaries but that makes crossing the finish line all the sweeter.  And we all made it.

As we were chilling out with the GrimTeam inside the velodrome over a massage and a beer, we could not help but marvelling at its beauty, the place where history has been made and where Chris Hoy was around earlier that morning to coach a new generation of cyclists.  We did not make history, but we hope we would make a small difference to the lives of young people in our community.
