Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

IN JUNE MYSELF AND SURESH ARE DRIVING TO TURIN (ITALY)!

WHY? I HEAR YOU ASK...

Well, we're trying to raise as much money as we can for the Prostate Cancer Charity ...and for this good cause we've been persuaded to take a clapped out, entry level, 18 year old Mini (named Dorris) for the run!

Without a TomTom, we hope to reach our destination through use of our intuition and ability to read foreign road signs (and believe me from past experience we lack in both of these areas).

To give you a background on Doris...in her current state she doesn't change down from 3rd gear to 2nd. The drivers seat belt has to be manoeuvred with precision for it to release...and the best part being the rusted foot well on the drivers side, which gives you the pleasure of seeing the road markings beneath your feet! Apart from these few minor issues, we're sure she's going to put in the innings of her life and make the all round trip.

Keyline have kindly arranged this event and given us the opportunity to try and raise money for a very worthwhile cause. So we've stepped up to the challenge to discard claims that we only know about spreadsheets and calculators!

We will update the site with pictures as we progress with the repairs.

Dorris Diary :

July 2010 - Sold on ebay to two strange accountant types, Driven back from Worcester to Northampton at a sensible speed, with only four issues, wiff of smoke from steering column when flashing full beam, dificulty with seatbelt, heating stuck on full power and the impossible task of changing from 3rd to 2nd without a working syncro.....

Early August 2010 - Little bit of WD40 fixed the heating, Dorris is no longer a sweatbox !

Late August 2010 - September 2010 - Driven from Rushden and Bedford to Northampton, double clutching partially mastered.

September 2010 - Sleeping in garage waiting for gearbox, electric's and floor repair followed by new MOT.

January 29th 2011 - Pushed her out of the garage and she started first time! Checked all lights wipers etc... everything working so booked MOT for wednesday (fingers crossed).

February 2nd  2011 - MOT Failure repairs to handbrake, floor, seatbelt and a reduction in emissions required to pass. Currently at the Mini Hospital in Northampton.

February 11th 2011 - Dorris has a new MOT!!

April 12th 2011 - Suresh finally has a picture taken with the noble steed! (even if it is in TP's car park)

April 25th 2011 - No headlights again! - Fixed after a good clean of all the connectors behind the grill.... (thanks dad for electrical skills!)

May 2nd 2011 - 1st Graphics applied from sponsors... It's alot tricker than you think especially in this wind.....
