BATTLE OF BARNET – IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF KING RICHARD III Sunday 14 April 2013
The battle of Barnet took place on a foggy morning on Easter Sunday 14 April 1471. The Yorkist army of King Edward IV took on the combined armies of his Uncle the Earl of Warwick and the Lancastrian faction in a battle which would destroy the power of the Neville family and lead to the return of Yorkist rule: what Shakespeare would describe as “this glorious sun of York.”
One wing of the army was led by Edward's youngest brother, the 18 year old Richard, Duke of Gloucester. This year the annual Battlefields Trust walk will concentrate on the role of the future King Richard III in this battle.
