Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We doubt there's anyone out there whose life hasn't been touched by cancer in some way. One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. That's why we've decided to take the plunge and fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support, a fantastic charity that provides practical, medical and financial support and pushes for better cancer care.

On 23rd June we'll be swimming a mile in the less than tropical waters of Lake Windermere; the furthest we have ever swam without being able to see the pool lines beneath us! We'd really appreciate any and every donation. It will be well spent and help Macmillan reach their brilliant ambition of reaching and improving the lives of everyone affected by cancer.

   POSTSCRIPT :

BAD NEWS - 24th June : this weekend proved so wet and windy that ,for reason of participants safety the organisers were compelled to cancel the event at the last minute .By then the campsite we were on at Windermere was itself flooded ! ( see photos including Shelagh and I on the start line in the pouring rain )

GOOD NEWS  - desperately disappointed but determined not to allow ourselves and you, our fantastic supportive friends down we have been able to register for the British Gas Great Manchester Swim next Sunday 1 July. We will still be swimming a mile but this time in Salford Quay. It's not what we planned but we are assured that Salford Quay is a lot cleaner than it used to be !

Thanks to your generosity we have already raised over 800 pounds ,and contributions to Macmillan continue to come in .Hopefully nothing except a tidal wave in Salford next week will stop us .

And here's the legal bit...

    SEXAGENARIANS' SUCCESS !

Admittedly we were a little short of the Olympic 1500 m qualifying time but having launched at 1.30pm we crossed the finishing line at Salford Quays on Sunday 1 July before it got dark !

We, and Macmilan Cancer Support, are truly grateful to you all for your incredible generosity.

    THANKYOU,THANKYOU,THANKYOU !

Our final total is an incredible   1,525 pounds !!

for Macmillan .This is more than we ever thought possible and we are absolutely thrilled that so many of you gave us so much support .
