At Asthma + Lung UK, our vision is for a world where everyone has healthy lungs. From research and campaigning to advice and support, as the UK’s lung charity we’re on a mission to change the way that lung health is perceived. Because breath is life - and that’s worth fighting for.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I would just like to tell you a little bit about the Lung condition that I suffer from - IPF NSIP. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and ultimately fatal disease characterized by a progressive decline in lung function. The term pulmonary fibrosis means scarring of lung tissue and is the cause of worsening dyspnea (shortness of breath).  Fibrosis is usually associated with a poor prognosis. The term idiopathic' is used because the cause of pulmonary fibrosis is still unknown. The prognosis of this disease is a life expectancy of 2-5 years. I was diagnosed 18 months ago following numerous visits to the doctors for a dry persistent cough. Since then I have undergone many tests including a lung biopsy.

I am now on Oxygen daily to help me breathe and be able to complete daily activities. I am wanting to do a sposored walk along with colleagues and friends who will be helping me along the way. We are walking from Brighton Pier to King Alfred Leisure centre and back to Brighton Pier. The walk is about 5 killometers in total. This may not sound alot, but with my lungs it will be like doing a marathon!  I  would like as many people to give as much as they can afford  to this worthy cause . My aim is to also raise awareness of IPF as GP surgeries and Nurses are not aware of  the disease.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and donating, I really apprecaite it!
