<p>I have been the chairman of Arc (a counselling charity) since its infancy back in 2006. As a local GP, I have witnessed first hand the difference the service has made locally to both young and old. Arc has experienced counsellors helping hundreds of people to recover from life changing events, be it a bereavement, a life (or career) threatening illness or injury; ordinary people being supported to adapt to extraordinary events in their lives and and to live through the subsequent difficult readjustments.</p>
<p>Over Easter 2012, my paddling partner and I will take part in our fourth Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon- 125 miles of paddling that will test our stamina, endurance and determination- hopefully in under 24 hours! </p>
