Claire Revans is raising money for The Golf Foundation
In memory of Barry Revans

We introduce children to golf, from all backgrounds, creating golfers. We do this because golf can change lives. Through the sport, we tackle issues of inactivity, mental health and provide opportunities for children to play golf in schools, in communities and continue playing in clubs.

Story

Thank you for caring to visit Dad's page.

You know Dad, so we don't need to tell you about his obsession with Golf (we realise that "obsession" is a strong word but we couldn't think of anything stronger), his love of life, his devotion to Mum and his family, his enormous circle of friends and his partiality to a swift half.

Always the pragmatist, Dad wouldn't want you spending your hard earned cash on something as ephemeral as flowers, so we have chosen something that we think he would have appreciated - If you would like to make a financial donation in lieu of flowers we have chosen the registered charity "The Golf Foundation", which we believes shares Dad's values. This is what they are about:

"The Golf Foundation believes that golf is a wholesome activity that enriches the lives of those who participate in the sport. Through its work, it aims to give all young people a positive experience through the medium of golf regardless of their background or circumstances.

‘Skills for Life’ is a principle that underpins the Golf Foundation’s work and links directly to the organisation’s mission statement. It is based on the belief that children and young people are able to develop playing skills and personal skills through the Foundation’s development initiatives, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Encouraging children and young people to learn and practice the basic playing skills – putting, short game, long game, course play and the golfer’s code – will lead to the psychological and physical benefits associated with improvement, personal achievement and life-long participation in sport.

Golf places strong emphasis on standards of behaviour and, therefore, is an ideal medium through which children and young people can develop six core personal skills – honesty, respect, co-operation, perseverance, concentration and self-motivation – which will help them through their youth and into adulthood."

Dad loved his golf - the game, the frustrations and the elations, the getting up at 6am only to be rained off (maybe not), hearing the first cuckoo of Spring, being there to disturb the dew on the first green, the smell of freshly mown grass, persuading Mum that he really needed a Great Big Bertha (ask a golfing friend), the company and camaraderie, he loved it and it was part of what made him the wonderful human being he was.

The Golf Federation will help children of all backgrounds discover the same experiences that Dad had the privilege of enjoying, and you never know, you could be helping to sponsor the next Lee Westwood!
