Story
Thinking of Oscar – On the 19th of June 2014, Oscar Cole (the son of my manager and friend) aged just 16 months passed away. Oscar’s death was sudden and unexpected after being admitted to hospital for treatment of osteomyelitis. Whilst being a dangerous infection of the bone, it can be treated with antibiotics. Unfortunately, during Oscar’s treatment he contracted Rotovirus which in turn is thought to have led to encephalitis and ultimately his passing.
Oscar's Mum, Hannah was my manager and friend and I'm constantly in awe of the strength, courage and bravery she has shown in the most terrible of situations. As a family Hannah, Dad - David and big sister Holly have done an amazing thing by setting up a charity "Thinking of Oscar", in order to support children in hospital care through raising funds to promote new innovative procedures to enhance the care and support of children at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
So in order to help support a fantastic cause I am taking part in the Eton Sprint Tri (May), Blenheim Palace Sprint Triathlon (June), Windsor Olympic Distance Triathlon (a week later June), The Lidl BananaMan - The Whole Banana (I liked the name July) and the WoBurner Half IronMan Distance (September) in memory of Oscar Cole who tragically passed away, aged just 16 months on June 19th 2014 which combined will mean that I swim 5.7km, Bike 200km and run just over 49km this summer, as most of you will know I’m not the average build for a
triathlete (more a superb couch potato) so I will have to work hard to complete this challenge - but I'm doing it for a great cause.
The ask – Please dig deep and support this fantastic cause and help this very special family in bringing care and support to others.
Thanks
Barry
