Story

The Crimson Bedroom gets its name from the impressive bed and set of matching furniture which includes the sofa, curtains, dressing chair and stool.

This suite was made for the 3 Earl of Ashburnham in around 1829, reputedly for a royal visit. In 1953 Lady Iliffe purchased the bed and window curtains at the Ashburnham Place sale for £100!

The bed is one of the finest surviving examples of William IV style upholstery. The damask hangings are entirely original and are probably the work of George Morant who was appointed Royal Upholsterer in 1830.

Sadly the textiles are showing their age after almost 200 years and are in desperate need of conservation work in order to maintain them for future generations.

This work is very specialist and we need your help to raise the funds needed for this work so please dig deep and give whatever you can.
