Our personal message:

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!

WE ARE DELIGHTED TO HAVE  REACHED OUR FUNDRAISING TARGET - BUT DONT LET THAT STOP YOU READING ON!

Early in 2007 my Mother, (Seb's Grandmother) died after suffering from the evil disease of Alzheimer’s.  In the past I have regularly tried to run half marathons in aid of Alzheimer's Society, but now, with running injuries, a fit son and a sense for further adventure, I am embarking on a far more dramatic (family) fund raising event with Seb.

So we planned an outrageous 500km bicycle trek in Morroco.   Cycling from the north western edge of the Sahara Desert, over the High Atlas Mountains  (with the route reaching heights of over 4,000m asl),  and down into Marrakech.  This is approx 100+ Km per day.  We will be carrying everything we need on the bikes with us (ie to bike, sleep, eat, drink, combat the snakes & scorpions, the heat and the exhaustion).  All this will be done for charity.

Why not get more information by reading what the Wiltshire Times has to say about it!   Follow the Link, or type "Peter Bates cycle trek" into your search engine.   http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/display.var.1700708.0.father_and_son_to_tackle_sahara.php

Or go to our chief sponsors web site and read the Blog..

The basic facts are:

WHO:  Father and Son.

WHEN: JUST FINISHED!! 27 Oct - 2 Nov 07 (ie Winter half term). 2 days getting there & 5 days biking.

WHY: To raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s; + To remember Elizabeth Bates; + To physically and mentally challenge ourselves in harsh environmental conditions.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

As an individual,  YOU could consider sponsoring us (see details below) and help us reach our target (if you don't want to do this on line we have paper sponsorship forms available too!).  Any donation  would be so welcome.

As a group or firm, YOU could consider some form of corporate sponsorship that will allow us to tackle the task more efficiently (details from  peternbates@hotmail.com ).

And could all of you please advertise this page and spread the word to anyone who might want to sponsor or donate, or even join us on our trek!

Thanks to you all - in Advance! -  Very Many Thanks already go to the following kind corporate sponsors, for supplying us with equipment and support:

 ...  GO ON !!! ...   ....   DONT BE SHY!!!  ....

THINK HOW VALUABLE A DONATION WOULD BE TO THOSE SUFFERERS NOW AND IN THE FUTURE ...

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us:    Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.    Alternatively the "old school" method of sponsoring is also available! - contact me on peternbates@hotmail.com

If you are kind enough to add to the list of sponsors, then you might want to write a message of support and let others know who you are etc.

STOP PRESS .....

WE HAVE NOW ARRIVED HOME.  We successfully completed the trek.  Yes it was hard work and there were times when we were extremely tired (cycling up hills for hours on end!!).  But fully exhilarated at the same time and delighted to have achieved this challenge.

This web page remains active until Jan 08, and we hope to encourage more interest and sponsorship.  Why not return to the page in a week’s time and see the different pictures being posted…
